July Update

Guatemala continues to struggle to get the Covid-19 virus under control.  The government has tried various measure to stop the spread of the virus but the number of cases continues to rise.  At the present time there is no public transportation but taxis and motorcycles are able to transport people who still have a job to their worksites.  Personal vehicles are limited in the number of days each week they can be used and stay at home restrictions on the weekend have been used to limit movement of people.  Many families are suffering with lack of work and lack of food.  A pastor recently contacted me to ask for prayer as he had no food to give to his family.  The needs are great and until there is a break through in the spread of the virus restrictions will continue to be imposed.  The borders are closed to tourist and this has a devastating effect on the economy, especially cities like Antigua.  It is very strange to see so few people in Antigua when it is normal busting with tourist during this time of year.  Our teams scheduled for this summer have been cancelled and our main focus is to provide food to families in our community. We are not able to have any meetings with the moms or children and churches have not been able to meet as well.

Our staff continues to meet daily for worship, sharing God’s word and prayer.  In addition we have online meetings with other YWAM bases in Central America and a regional meeting for Mexico, Central America and South America twice each month.  Several YWAM bases have been offering online courses to provide training in several areas of ministry.  It has been a time of sabbatical rest and training for all of us and we are praying that we will be able to resume our ministries as soon as possible.

If you would like to help us with the Food Distribution Ministry through a donation, please go to our Donation page on this website.  We have been budgeting about $25 per bag of food for each family and we are currently trying to help about 90 families in our community.  Thank you for your support and participation as we reach out to our community to demonstrate God’s love and care for each family.
